The famous Trifid Nebula is a favorite summer target for astrophotographers. It has an unusual combination of an open cluster of stars, an emission nebula (the pink/red on the right), a reflection nebula (the blue portion on the left) and dark nebulae dividing up the emission part of the nebula. It lies approximately 5200 light years away and is about 6.3 magnitude. It is a star forming region. Technical/capture data can be found here.
