IC 63 The Ghost Nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia
IC 63, the Ghost Nebula lies 550 light years from us in the constellation of Cassiopeia. It was discovered by Sir William Herschel. This eerie little faint apparition is energized and illuminated by the very bright eruptive variable star gamma Cassiopeia, which lies only about 5 light years from the nebula off the upper right corner of this image. The redish (H-alph) regions are being energized by the intense radiation from gamma Cassiopeia and the bluish areas are light being reflected off the gas & dust of the nebula. Captured in October of 2024 from the observatory. 6.7 hours of exposure. Additional image information here: IC 63 The Ghost of Cassiopeiae (Paul Sugg) - AstroBin
